CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.   As part of the Studies Program, the research associate will support the work of the Senior Vice President, Director of Studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg Chair. Qualified candidates will have related experience that required judgment, strong writing and editing ability, time management skills, and experience dealing with high-profile individuals.

The Production and Business Associate will support all finance operations and magazine production activities for Foreign Affairs. This is an excellent opportunity to learn multi-platform content production and profit and loss management from the ground up.   As part of a team, reporting to the Circulation Operations Director, he/she will learn how to forecast revenue and expenses for subscriptions, advertising, events, and third party revenue streams, such as apps and content licenses. He/she will play a role in the production of our print and digital products as well as content syndication across third-party platforms.

The headquarters for the Council on Foreign Relations is housed in the historic landmark Harold Pratt mansion as well as the state-of-the-art Peterson Conference Center. This combined space is used for several hundred Council meetings a year and is one of the most sought after locations in Manhattan to rent for corporate meetings, conferences, weddings, and other special events. All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning and much more.   The Foreign Affairs, Marketing Design intern will learn the ins and outs of publishing and marketing a magazine. They will develop and deepen their graphic design skills for a reputable brand and will be exposed to marketing strategies, composing of digital operations, social media, analytics and more. The intern will also learn about niche marketing as we try to target specific communities. The intern will develop office, organizational, and strategic marketing skills.   CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.   Spring 2022 internships will begin on a remote basis with a possibility of limited onsite work. However, it will be possible to participate in the program on a fully-remote basis as well.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original research and writing on what should be done to prevent and mitigate the consequences of climate change and to navigate the global green transition underway. CFR Digital is seeking a Director of Design and User Experience to join our award-winning team. The candidate will manage a team of UX, data visualization and print designers. The role will oversee the design and UX for all projects, including interactives, maps, timelines, assets for video, print collateral, as well as overall page design for CFR.org and its mobile products. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with the editorial, product and engineering teams and support council-wide initiatives involving Studies and the Executive office. Council branding will also fall under the Director’s purview.
